Machine Age was commissioned by Four Paws International as part of the ground-breaking ‘End the Cage Age European Citizens Initiative’ (ECI) in which over 170 organisations joined forces to end cage keeping of farm animals. The ECI gained nearly 1.4 million signatures. In April 2021, the campaign went to a public hearing held by the EU Parliament, after which the EU Commission committed to phasing out the use of cages for farmed animals in Europe by 2027. Machine Age was in the official selection for and screened at 20 film festivals, won Best Documentary, Best International Film, and also got a nomination for Best Film By A Female Director at Setting Sun Film Festival in Australia. Anish, a migrant worker from Nepal spoke to Equidem about the abuse he and others faced while working on the construction of Lusail Stadium. He also blew the lid on efforts taken by his employer, one of the main stadium construction contractors for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, to prevent workers from reporting abuse. Home to the world’s largest mangrove forest, 4.5 million people and the endangered Bengali tiger, Sundarbans is a unique place on earth. But it is also a place at constant threat of rising sea levels and recurring cyclones. Today, a pioneer construction project aims to save this invaluable land.
